Assessments
Most students attend once a week, although the frequency and duration of sessions can vary depending on their needs, goals and availability. We will discuss the most appropriate option with you following the initial assessment.Duration varies considerably between students. Some students need targeted support to address specific gaps, while others benefit from longer-term intervention and ongoing consolidation. Rather than setting an arbitrary number of sessions, we use assessment and progress information to determine whether the current level of support remains appropriate. We regularly monitor student progress throughout tutoring. Formal reassessment is generally completed at approximately 10-week intervals, depending on the student's programme and individual needs. This allows us to see what has improved, identify areas that still require support, and adjust the learning plan as needed.
Yes. We value positive relationships with local schools and teachers and, where appropriate, can work alongside the support your child is already receiving at school. We take the time to understand what your child is currently learning, what support they are receiving, and where their teachers have identified areas of strength or difficulty. This helps us ensure that our tutoring complements, rather than duplicates, the work being done at school. Our sessions are individually tailored to your child's needs. Sometimes this means reinforcing current classroom learning, while at other times we may focus on foundational skills or specific gaps that need additional teaching and practice.Where appropriate, we can also communicate with your child's teacher or school so that everyone supporting your child has a clearer understanding of their progress and learning needs.
Absolutely. Tutoring can complement school-based learning support by providing additional opportunities for explicit teaching, individualised practice and consolidation. We will consider the support your child is already receiving at school when developing their learning plan. Our goal is not to replace or duplicate that support, but to provide targeted teaching that works alongside it.With your permission, we can take relevant information from your child's teacher or school into consideration when planning sessions. This can be particularly helpful when a student needs support to strengthen foundational skills while also keeping up with their current classroom learning.
Consistency between tutoring, school and home can make a real difference to a child's progress. We encourage simple, manageable opportunities to practise the skills being taught rather than putting pressure on families to provide additional teaching at home.Homework is provided after each tutoring session and is designed to reinforce the skills your child has been working on. Depending on their individual learning goals, this may include a paper-based activity or worksheet, reading at home, or targeted practice through online learning programmes. The type and amount of homework will vary depending on your child's needs, age and current goals. We aim to make home practice purposeful and manageable, rather than simply giving additional work for the sake of it.Regular practice between sessions helps children consolidate new skills and build confidence, while consistency between school, tutoring and home can support stronger progress over time.We will keep you informed about the skills your child is currently working on so you understand what they are practising and how you can support them at home. We encourage families to establish a consistent routine for completing homework, while keeping learning positive and achievable.
We can identify patterns in assessment results that may indicate that a student is experiencing persistent difficulty with particular aspects of literacy or numeracy. However, tutoring and educational assessment are not the same as a formal diagnosis. If we have concerns about a student's learning profile, we can discuss these with you and recommend seeking further assessment or professional advice where appropriate.
